✍️ About the Author

Dhanpat Rai Srivastava (1880–1936), popularly known as Munshi Premchand, was one of India’s greatest writers and pioneers of modern Hindi and Urdu literature.

Premchand was among the earliest writers to address social issues such as caste inequalities, the struggles of women and the hardships faced by labourers. His works reflected the realities of Indian society and continue to remain relevant across generations.

He began writing under the pen name Nawab Rai before adopting the name Premchand. His first collection of short stories, Soz-e-Watan (Voice of the Nation), was published in 1907.

His remarkable literary legacy includes more than a dozen novels, around 300 short stories, essays and translations of several foreign literary works into Hindi. He remains one of the most celebrated writers of the Indian subcontinent.
