On That Note: Memories of a Life in Music

A Life in Music is a candid memoir and insightful exploration of Carnatic music by Sanjay Subrahmanyan, one of the most celebrated contemporary voices in Indian classical music. Combining personal reflections with deep insights into musical practice, this book offers an intimate look into the life, discipline and creative journey of a legendary performer.

📖 About the Book

Sanjay Subrahmanyan is regarded as a musician’s musician—admired not only for his extraordinary command over Carnatic music but also for his intellectual understanding of its traditions, theories and evolving forms.

Rooted in rigorous classical training while constantly exploring new possibilities, Subrahmanyan reflects on his remarkable journey through decades of musical practice. From his childhood years and early training to his growth as a professional artist, he shares the experiences that shaped his identity as a musician.
