AUDACIOUS HOPE: AN ARCHIVE OF HOW DEMOCRACY IS BEING SAVED IN INDIA

Audacious Hope is a powerful documentation of ordinary citizens who have stood up to defend democracy in India. Through a careful examination of protests, social movements and acts of collective resistance, this book explores how hope and courage continue to challenge authoritarianism and protect democratic values.

📖 About the Book

At a time when democratic institutions face growing challenges across the world, Audacious Hope chronicles the many ways Indian citizens have resisted oppressive state authority and defended the principles of equality, freedom and justice.

The book documents significant moments of public action, including the nationwide farmers’ protests of 2020, resistance movements against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), community-led responses during the COVID-19 pandemic and the efforts of cultural activists pushing the boundaries of free expression.

Through detailed research and compelling narratives, Indrajit Roy presents an archive of courage, showing how ordinary people have created powerful movements through solidarity and collective action. The book asks an important question: how can individuals and communities continue to resist authoritarianism, caste-based inequalities and majoritarianism?

The answer lies in the enduring spirit of hope—the audacious belief that democracy can be defended and renewed through people's participation.
